Bowbrook Lodges join the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Challenges

Owners Rich and Matt Jaques from Pinvin near Pershore have joined the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Challenge to support both the Wonderful Wetlands and Tree-mendous initiatives.

The David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Challenges is a scheme which encourages people and businesses to give wildlife a break by ensuring they make a marvellous pledge for nature.

It’s an exciting new initiative that lets holiday parks and residential home parks show the world how dedicated they are to helping Britain’s wildlife.

The local brothers have pledged to improve existing habitats for wildlife, create new wildlife habitats and features, manage your greenspace in as environmentally friendly a way as possible, involve customers and staff in wildlife conservation engage with local conservation bodies and projects, for example.

In doing so, they’ve enhanced their local glamping site, based in Pinvin near Pershore, in order to help support wildlife and make it more attractive to visitors. Bowbrook Lodges is now landscaped with 2500 trees, 250 fruit trees, lakes and wetlands and a one-mile-long path for easy walks.

Rich says: “ We’re really happy to be involved with this initiative and want to encourage others to join in too. What a great way to support a local sustainable business as well as make a pledge to give nature a break. ”

Finalists in the wonderful Visit Worcestershire's Tourism Awards 2022!

Alongside some iconic venues, we’re delighted to announce that Bowbrook Lodges is a finalist in this year’s wonderful Visit Worcestershire 's Tourism Awards!

The 2021/22 Visit Worcestershire Tourism Awards opened for applications on 14 June 2021, with tourism and hospitality businesses applying for 12 awards across a range of different areas.

To enter, businesses answered four key questions and provided links to their online presence and images. After two rounds of judging, entrants were shortlisted, and all finalists went forward to the event itself where winners are announced.

All winners of the Visit Worcestershire Tourism Awards are forwarded for entry into the Visit England Awards for Excellence, for a chance to win on the national stage and represent Worcestershire as one of the best destinations in England.

Bowbrook Lodges didn;t win but we're delighted to have been shortlisted for our application.

Explain a bit about their organisation (briefly) to give context/background to the project.

Bowbrook Holidays offer pods, safari tents, lodges and caravan pitches. Some of our pods have under cover hot tubs and outside showers and the more luxury pods are fully self catered. We are gradually moving towards a more sustainable offering with solar and wind power planned for the future. Our firsts steps have been to plant more than 3000 trees with Natural Networks and Worcester Wildlife trust. We have created a nature reserve including lakes, wetlands, fruit trees. To further open this to the public we will be looking to create a coffee shop and large car park for the public in the next 1-2 years.

What impact has the grant funding had on your local community?
There is now a 1 mile hard path around the lakes, woodlands and fruit trees allowing all year round access to the public. Stunning walks along Bow Brook and the Estate.

What has it allowed you to create?
Woodlands, varied fruit trees, wildlife corridors, wetlands, lakes and attractive walks.

Would you recommend the scheme to others and if so why?

Absolutely, this has really made our site attractive for the public to visit and essentially put us on the map. A huge thanks to both Sean and Latie for the hard work they have put in to help us realise the grant and therefore do the work.

Walks

Bowbrook Lodges build a case for wildlife

We've recently worked with the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust (WWT) to build wetlands on our wonderful camping and glamping site.

Richard and Matt Jaques, brothers and joint owners of the site, approached the county’s Wildlife Trust to enhance their site in order to help support wildlife and make it more attractive to visitors.

Together, they applied for support in 2019 and tree planting work commenced in the winter of 2020 with the creation of wetlands completed in Spring 2021.

Richard says: “We planted the trees in 2020 with the help of Worcester Wildlife Trust to improve sustainability and provide a truly unique area to explore. It is now landscaped with 2500 trees, 250 fruit trees, lakes and wetlands and a 1 mile long hard path for easy walks.”

Sustainability and an enduring place to visit were at the forefront of the drive to change and the WWT supported the brothers’ ambitious plans.

Sean Webber, Natural Networks Officer, agrees: “The Natural Networks project at Bowbrook Lodges has really helped to transform the site and has created valuable habitat for wildlife: the new woodland margins contain a range of native trees and shrubs which will provide food and shelter whilst the new traditional orchards and meadows will provide lots of flowers and fruit. Traditional orchards can be a great habitat for wildlife, particularly birds and pollinators, and the site now has a wide range of fruit tree varieties, many of which were raised in Worcestershire and the surrounding counties. The project has also created some significant new wetland habitats, including a lake, a pond complex, and two large backwaters. The new wetlands complement the existing habitats of the Bow Brook (a Local Wildlife Site) and provide a haven for dragonflies, fish fry, and other aquatic species. The site now offers a diverse range of habitats for wildlife which will become increasingly valuable as they establish and mature.”

There can be few nicer treats while on holiday than relaxing in a tea shop. Whether it’s a full afternoon tea or a well-earned cup of coffee and slice of cake to break up a countryside hike, you really can’t beat it.

Of course we’ve got our fair share of chain coffee shops in the area, but if you are looking for something a bit different, there are also lots of lovely independent tea and coffee shops in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

Here are some of our favourites….....

SIP Coffee House & Patisserie, Pershore

SIP Coffee House is located on the High Street in Pershore, inside the Persora shop.

SIP has a beautiful garden to enjoy on a sunny (or not so sunny day). While walk-ins are welcome, you may want to reserve a table if you’re planning to visit in good weather.

Open 10am – 4pm Tuesday to Saturday, SIP serves all of your favourite coffees in just one size – ‘the perfect size’. It also serves a range of teas, hot chocolates and some very refreshing cold drinks.

The cakes are a little bit different, with some patisserie treats, including strawberry teardrop mousse and a classic lemon meringue tart.

A number of the cakes and pastries are vegan and there is also a ‘very low gluten’ range (gluten free, but made in an environment where gluten exists).

Barista’s Café & Bar, Pershore

Located in Royal Arcade in Broad Street, Pershore, Barista’s is a family run coffee shop, café and bar, providing home cooked food sourced locally.

Its brownies are particularly special, with a selection of tasty flavours, which may include Bueno, Galaxy, Oreo, Snickers and more. There are also freshly prepared breakfasts, snacks, cakes, ice cream and daily specials.

As well as being a coffee shop, Barista’s sells alcohol all day, with a range of locally sourced beers, as well as gins and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Barista’s is dog friendly – it even has a dog menu!

Koffee & Cake, Pershore

Located on Bridge Street in Pershore, Koffee & Cake serves a huge range of homemade cakes, in a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere, with new and exciting creations to try every day.

The coffee is Wogan Coffee, established in Bristol in 1970, and organically grown in Honduras. As well as your favourite coffees, Koffee & Cake serves a big range of indulgent hot chocolates and loose leaf teas.

Cold drinks include local juices from Pershore College and creamy frappes.

Koffee & Cake is open 10am – 2pm Friday to Sunday.

G&Tea, Worcester

G&Tea is a vintage tearoom located on Worcester’s historic Friar Street.

G&Tea serves afternoon tea, alongside tasty breakfasts, delicious lunches and amazing cakes.

The tearoom is run by Laura, a professional baker, who has worked in bakeries all over the country and has brought her baking expertise back to her home city.

Everything is handmade on site, and G&Tea can cater for most dietary requirements.

If you’re looking for something even more special, liven up your afternoon tea with a gin cocktail served straight out of a vintage teapot!

G&Tea is open 10am – 4.30pm Wednesday to Saturday.

Crumpets & Coffee Lounge, Worcester

Located on Angel Place in Worcester, Crumpets & Coffee Lounge is a particularly good choice for vegans, as it doesn’t charge extra for plant-based ‘milk’.

Crumpets & Coffee Lounge serves its own unique house blend coffee, combining the best direct trade coffee from Brazil, Thailand and Ethiopia.

Crumpets & Coffee is open 8.30am - 2pm on Monday, 8.30am - 3pm Tuesday to Thursday and 8.30am - 2pm on Friday and Saturday.

Polbrook Kitchen & Coffee Shop Malvern

Polbrook Kitchen & Coffee Shop is a family run, independent café located close to the Three Counties Showground in Malvern.

Polbrook serves James Gourmet Coffee, which is roasted in Ross-on-Wye by another family run business.

The coffee shop team pride themselves on making all their food from scratch, including lunchtime specials, cakes, bakes and sourdough bread.

The menu has a good range of vegan and gluten free options available, including cakes.

St Ann’s Well Café, Great Malvern

St Ann’s Well Café provides a welcome stop-off when walking up (or down) the Malvern Hills.

The picturesque café in a Grade II listed building dates back to 1813 and is located on the slopes of the Malvern Hills, a short walk away from the town of Great Malvern.

St Ann’s Well is 100% vegetarian and also offers a range of vegan options. It serves a selection of wholesome meals, homemade cakes, coffees and teas in a unique and tranquil location with plenty of outdoor seating.

St Ann’s Well is a dog friendly café and is open 11.30am – 3.30pm Thursday to Sunday.

The Kettle Sings, Great Malvern

The Kettle Sings is an independent tearoom located in the village of Colwall, close to Great Malvern, and is another great place for a stop-off when walking in the Malvern Hills.

The Kettle Sings prides itself on using locally sourced produce to create homemade dishes for visitors. Every delicious dish is made fresh to order and the tearoom has a seasonally changing menu and a wide variety of speciality teas and homemade cakes.

The Kettle Sings has spectacular views looking across the countryside from high up on the side of the Malvern Hills. The views can be enjoyed all year round from the tearoom and large balcony area.

The Kettle Sings is open 10am – 4pm Wednesday to Friday and 10am – 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Carousel Tea Room, Tewkesbury

Located on the High Street in historic Tewkesbury, Carousel Tea Room is open every day for breakfast, lunch and afternoon treats.

The tea shop prides itself on using only the best local suppliers to bring quality products to customers’ tables.

Carousel uses locally roasted Severn Blend coffee beans for its coffees. Teas are all from the English Tea Shop range and available either loose leaf or in tea bags, in all the flavours you could possibly want!

Brownies, scones, Victoria sandwich, flapjacks, donuts and more are available every day. Soup is made fresh daily and is always vegan.

Carousel is open 9am – 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am – 4pm on Sunday.

The Abbey Tea Rooms and Restaurant, Tewkesbury

The Abbey Tea Rooms is located in a quaint old building almost opposite Tewkesbury Abbey.

It is run by a husband and wife team, with the help of three members of staff. They have owned the Abbey Tea Rooms for over 17 years and have been in the catering business for 40 years.

The Abbey Tea Rooms has a fascinating interior with carefully displayed memorabilia and is furnished in a traditional style. There is a small, but very pretty garden at the back, which is filled with flowers during the spring and summer.

It serves breakfast, mid-morning snacks, hot and cold lunches, freshly baked goods, afternoon tea and a great Sunday roast. It is advisable to book for Sunday lunch!

The Abbey Tea Rooms is open Friday to Monday.

Tilly’s Tea Room, Tewkesbury

Tilly’s is located in Tewkesbury town centre, a short walk from Tewkesbury Abbey, riverside walks and local independent shops.

It is a Grade 2 listed tearoom over two floors, serving homemade food.

Coffee is roasted by a local supplier, James Coffee, of Ross-on-Wye. Tilly’s uses a loose leaf tea with a variety of different flavours made by Born Wild Tea, another local supplier. It is also licensed and sells a variety of soft drinks.

There is always a warm welcome at Tilly’s, any time of the day. All meals are produced on site, with pies, quiches, hams, chutneys and ice creams cooked on site by owner, Gill.

Cakes, scones, tarts and special treats are produced and baked by owner, Claire.

Tilly’s is open seven days a week for breakfasts, lunches, snacks and afternoon tea.

Leaf & Bean Tea and Coffee Lounge, Broadway

Leaf & Bean Tea and Coffee Lounge is located just off the main road in Broadway, Worcestershire.

Leaf & Bean has indoor and outdoor seating. It doesn’t take reservations, so it’s first come, first served.

Cream teas are available all day and the selection of cakes and treats usually includes at least three gluten free options and three vegan options. There is also a good range of vegan sandwiches, toasties and paninis.

The choice of teas is the biggest we’ve seen in the Cotswolds! There really is something for everyone.

Leaf & Bean is open every day 10am - 5pm, with hot food and sandwiches served until 4pm, subject to availability.

The Old Bakery, Winchcombe

The Old Bakery is located on the corner of the High Street and Castle Street, right in the centre of Winchcombe.

A cosy and comfortable café with a pretty garden, there is always a warm welcome, however covered in mud you are!

The Old Bakery serves teas, coffees, cream teas, sandwiches and light lunches. Walkers are welcome and the café is dog friendly.

The Old Bakery is open Tuesday to Sunday 10.30am - 5.30pm.

Honey Bea’s Café, Winchcombe

Honey Bea’s Café is on Hailes Street in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire.

Honey Bea’s is a family run café, welcoming walkers, cyclists and dogs. It even has boot covers and a boot rack for particularly wet and muddy days.

It serves a range of fresh, homemade cakes, light lunches, and hot and cold drinks, including award winning coffee and hot chocolates.

There is a small courtyard garden with seating at the back.

Honey Bea’s is open 10am – 4pm Tuesday to Saturday.

JellyPickleJam, Evesham

JellyPickleJam is a vintage tearoom, tucked away in a courtyard off Vine Street in Evesham, Worcestershire.

With a definite nod to Alice in Wonderland, it serves local, seasonal and sustainable products, with preserves sourced from gardens in the surrounding area.

Whether you are looking for lunch, an afternoon tea or a quick coffee and cake, JellyPickleJam serves a wide selection of quality teas from Suki and The Lawn Collection, and handmade cakes and treats, including its signature contemporary and traditional afternoon teas.

JellyPickleJam is open 10am – 4.30pm Tuesday to Saturday.

Herbies Coffee House, Evesham

Herbies Coffee House is located in the Market Place in Evesham, with outdoor seating making it the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by.

It is an independent coffee house, serving the finest coffee, quality teas, hot chocolates and delicious milkshakes, as well as lunches and cakes.

Herbies has friendly staff and is very child and dog friendly.

Herbies Coffee House is open 9am – 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am – 4pm on Sunday.

The Find, Cheltenham

The Find is located on Regent Street, right in the centre of Cheltenham. With plenty of outdoor seating, it is a great place to watch the world go by.

The Find serves a range of breakfasts, brunches, lunches, teas, coffees, speciality hot chocolates, soft drinks, juices and smoothies, as well as delicious cakes. It has a big choice of vegan and gluten free options.

The Find prides itself on its sustainability and almost all of its packaging is plant-based and fully compostable, including its takeaway coffee cups and salad boxes. All café waste is sorted, so any recyclable waste is recycled and food waste composted.

By supporting local suppliers, The Find aims to keep food miles down and give customers a chance to experience the wonderful food on their doorstep.

The Find is open 9am – 4pm Sunday to Friday and 9am to 5pm on Saturday.

The Fourteas, Stratford-upon-Avon

The Fourteas is a vintage 1940s style tearoom, a stone’s throw away from the iconic Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.

It offers a step back in time to an era of homecooked food and locally sourced ingredients. Your afternoon tea will be accompanied by the sounds of Vera Lynn, Glenn Miller and The Andrews Sisters.

There is always a good selection of homemade cakes and scones, with gluten free scones, cakes and sandwiches available at all times.

The Fourteas is open from 9.30am – 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 10.30am – 5.30pm on Sunday.

Trumpet Corner Tea Room, near Ledbury

Trumpet Corner Tea Room, Garden and Gallery is located in rural Herefordshire, about four miles west of Ledbury.

The tearoom serves a choice of ground coffees and freshly made leaf tea. There is also a wide variety of homemade light lunches using local produce. Cream teas and fresh cakes are all made on site.

Trumpet Corner Tea Room is light and airy, with a variety of seating, including a walled garden for when the weather is good.

The tearoom is also fully licensed and serves a wide range of local beers, wines and ciders.

Trumpet Corner is open 9am – 4pm Monday to Saturday.

Bowbrook Holidays is perfectly situated for you to enjoy some great days out on our doorstep, in Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and beyond.

There are so many places to choose from, whatever time of year you visit. But here are a few of our favourites.

Croome, National Trust

Croome stately home and gardens in Worcestershire has a fascinating history – and plenty to see and do.

The grand house (Croome Court) is set in one of the most innovative designed landscapes in Britain – the work of Capability Brown.

Rescued from almost total loss by the National Trust, the parkland with its serpentine river, views over the Malverns and elegant garden buildings, is a perfect place for walks and adventures, with a surprise around every corner.

During the Second World War, Croome was used as a secret wartime airbase. Learn more about this fascinating period and the activities of the many people who worked there, in the RAF museum located at the visitor centre.

There are also contemporary art collections, a restored RAF fighter plane, play areas and a coffee shop.

Entry and parking are free to National Trust members. Entry to the walled garden is an additional fee.

Spetchley Park Gardens

Spetchley Park Gardens in Worcestershire has been home to the Berkeley family for over 400 years and successive generations have lovingly collected rare plants, shrubs and trees from around the world, creating a wondrous garden of many rooms and vistas that appeal to all ages and tastes.

Surrounded by ancient parkland and lakes, this historic garden is set in the countryside with views of the Malvern Hills.

There is also a coffee shop on site, where you can buy a takeaway picnic lunch or cakes and snacks.

Eastnor Castle

Eastnor Castle is located near Ledbury, in Herefordshire, at the foot of the Malvern Hills.

A fascinating and award-winning visitor attraction, it is surrounded by a beautiful deer park, arboretum and lake, and is the home of the Hervey-Bathurst family.

Open on selected days between Easter and September, the historic house is full of medieval armour and fine art. In the beautiful grounds , visitors will find spectacular walks, trails and views.

Children of all ages will have fun in the adventure playground , Knight’s Maze, Junior Obstacle Course and many more attractions.

The Castle Tea Room offers hot and cold food, drinks and snacks, and there are plenty of picnic benches on the Valley Lawn for visitors to use.

A varied and exciting events programme runs from Easter until September, with a special event held on most days that the castle is open to visitors.

Sudeley Castle & Gardens

You will find Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe, in the Gloucestershire countryside.

Sudeley was once a royal residence, closely associated with some of the most famous English monarchs, including Edward IV, Richard III, Henry VIII, Lady Jane Grey, Katherine Parr, Elizabeth I and Charles I.

The castle has 10 beautiful, award-winning gardens and a fantastic adventure playground and fun fort for younger visitors.

Sudeley Castle is the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within its grounds. Visitors can explore the beautifully restored 15th century St Mary’s Church where Katherine Parr, the last of Henry VIII’s six wives, now lies entombed.

Inside the castle, visitors will find a remarkable collection of priceless objects and curiosities, illustrating the history of Sudeley and its owners.

Among the items on show are a tragic queen’s love letters, a long-lost Roman stone God, a lock of Katherine Parr’s hair, her prayer book and an intricate lace christening canopy, believed to have been worked on by Anne Boleyn for the christening of her daughter, Elizabeth I.

An iconic Elizabethan painting – The Allegory of the Tudor Succession - is on display at Sudeley. The renowned artwork was created in 1572 by Flemish artist, Lucas de Heere, and depicts Henry VIII, his three children, and Queen Mary’s husband, Phillip of Spain.

Sudeley Castle is home to one of the largest public collections of rare and endangered species of pheasants from around the world.

The castle opens in the spring and is open until 31 ^st October.

A number of special events take place at the castle throughout the season.

Sezincote Estate

Located just outside Moreton-in-Marsh in Gloucestershire, Sezincote is unique. At the heart of a traditional, family-run estate covering 3,500 acres of rolling Cotswold countryside stands a 200-year-old Mogul Indian palace, set in a romantic landscape of temples, grottoes, waterfalls and canals reminiscent of the Taj Mahal.

The house is still privately owned and remains at the centre of a thriving agricultural estate. It is a unique combination of Hindu and Muslim architecture. Sezincote is even credited with influencing the design of the Brighton Pavilion, after a visit by The Prince Regent in 1807.

The gardens were designed with the help of Humphrey Repton. Streams and pools are lined with great clumps of bog-loving plants and the stream is crossed by an Indian bridge adorned with Brahmin bulls. Ornaments include a temple to Surya the sun god and a snake coiled around a column in the Snake Pond.

Cotswold Farm Park

There really is something for everyone on a day out at Cotswold Farm Park in the Gloucestershire countryside.

Whether you are interested in rare breeds and sustainable farming or just looking for a great playground for the kids to let off steam, you won’t be disappointed.

Owned by TV star Adam Henson, Cotswold Farm Park has an animal barn, where visitors can meet the newest arrivals, including piglets, calves and goat kids, especially in spring. The discovery barn is home to the smallest creatures, including rabbits, guinea pigs and ducklings. You might even get to see chicks hatch! Staff are always on hand to answer any questions.

Walk round the site on the rare breeds trail to meet goats, lambs and Suffolk Punch horses. There are also one and two-mile wildlife walks, taking in rare wildlife and seasonal wildflowers.

There are a variety of indoor and outdoor play facilities for children, including the popular bouncy pillows, where they can jump as high as they dare!

Cotswold Wildlife Park

Located in Burford in Oxfordshire, the Cotswold Wildlife Park is a slightly longer journey than some of the other attractions, but it is definitely worth the trek for animal lovers!

The park boasts a fantastic collection of animals, including giraffes, meerkats and zebras, as well as white rhinos and the Asiatic lion.

The lemur collection is a real highlight of a visit to Cotswold Wildlife Park and the park is proud of its conservation projects for crowned sifaka and greater bamboo lemurs – two of the most endangered primate species in the world.

In and around the walled garden area of the park, you will find many other primate and small mammal species and the incredible wolverines. Cotswold Wildlife Park is the first UK zoo to successfully breed this species.

The park isn’t just about the animals. Staff have developed a wide range of planting styles in the gardens, many of which link with the animal exhibits and take advantage of its various microclimates. With the Victorian Manor House at the hub, a large walled garden and a wonderful collection of mature trees form the backbone of the landscape.

Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR)

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway is a heritage railway, entirely rebuilt by volunteers.

The railway offers a round trip of 28 miles. Steam trains run from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway in Worcestershire – or you can get on or off at Toddington in Gloucestershire.

It uses part of the route of the former Great Western Railway's main line from Birmingham to Cheltenham, which used to run via Stratford-upon-Avon.

GWSR operates its steam and heritage diesel trains through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Cotswolds. The line commands wonderful views of the nearby sleepy hamlets and villages, with outstanding outlooks across to the Malvern Hills and beyond.

Trains operate on selected days throughout the year and there are also a number of special events running during the year, including the ever popular Santa Specials.

Abbey Park, Evesham

If you’re looking for a park to relax or for the kids to let off steam, you can’t beat Abbey Park in Evesham, Worcestershire.

The park is open every day and features mature trees, open grass areas, ornamental herbaceous borders, children’s play area, a skate park, lily pool, picnic benches and plenty of seating, a bandstand, a variety of artwork, historic features and boat trips on the river.

Perhaps the biggest attraction for families with children is the water play fountains.

Set in an attractive area with seats and rubber safety surfacing, water from the mains supply is pumped through underground pipes and sent upwards in a variety of feature fountains and sprays which are great fun to use to cool down on a hot day.

Children or adults can operate the fountains by standing on pressure pads set within the floor surface.

The whole system is operated by an automatic electronic control, which turns the water on at 10am and off at 6pm each day.

There are no changing rooms on site, so visitors are recommended to take along plenty of towels and a change of clothes.

The water fountains are great fun for all ages and abilities, with easy access for wheelchairs.

Sandford Parks Lido, Cheltenham

On a warm, summer day, there is no better place to unwind than Sandford Parks Lido in Cheltenham.

The historic outdoor pool first opened in 1935 and has been enjoyed by the people of Cheltenham and the surrounding areas ever since.

The Lido has a large 50 metre pool, including small slides, and a children’s pool. There is a café on site and the pool is surrounded by plenty of grounds for sunbathing, picnics and relaxing.

On hot days, the queues can get long! The pool has a maximum capacity limit, which it observes strictly and may have to use a one in, one out system if it reaches its limit.

The pool is open from around Easter to October every year.

The Malvern Hills

For fans of the great outdoors, there are few better places to enjoy an exhilarating walk than the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire.

Whether you're looking to hike the whole length of the ridge, a place to walk your four-legged friend or a gentle stroll, the beautiful Malvern Hills and Commons has something for everyone.

Views from the Malvern Hills are stunning on a clear day. While the main ridgeline and slopes are steep, there are also alternative options if you're looking for a gentler walk or access for families or wheelchair users.

Walkers have a right of access across all land under the care of the Malvern Hills Trust, but they are asked to keep to established paths wherever possible, in order to minimise disturbance to wildlife or grazing animals.

Pittville Park, Cheltenham

Cheltenham in Gloucestershire boasts a large number of parks, and Pittville is the jewel in its crown.

Located close to the town centre, Pittville Park is divided in two by Evesham Road. T he eastern side of the park is overlooked by Pittville Pump Room, and home to the main children's play area and the aviaries of birds and bunnies.

To the west of Evesham Road lies the much larger western park , with its more natural layout and small areas of woodland. Here you will find the larger 'lower lake' where you can fish d uring the fishing season, and there is a smaller children's play area along with tennis courts, a pitch and putt golf course and a skate park.

The lake has plenty of ducks and a family of swans, and there are two small cafes to buy coffees and ice creams in the park.

Worcester Woods Country Park

Located close to Worcester city centre, Worcester Woods Country Park boasts two nature reserves, a huge open field, a busy countryside centre with award-winning cafe and easy access from the city or the motorway.

There are two adventure play parks, ancient woodlands to explore and space to fly a kite or have a game of rounders.

During school holidays, there is a timetable of events to keep children entertained, which includes jewellery making, sports sessions and arts and crafts.

Two waymarked trails occupy the park if you fancy a stroll, one through the beautiful and colourful meadows and the other through the shaded woods.

The park has an orienteering course and geocache for those on a quest. It is a popular place for families, where young and old can get together and enjoy a picnic.

Piston Gin School

For something a bit different – and definitely adults only – try a Gin School experience at Piston Distillery in Worcester.

It’s not cheap, but would be great for a special occasion for the gin lover in your life.

Enjoy a Piston and tonic and some nibbles as you hear more about the history of gin. Then you will find out more about the process of making gin, how to correctly use the equipment and the botanicals needed to create your perfect recipe.

Get smelling, touching and tasting, experiment with unique combinations or keep it simple as you create your flavour.

Finally, bottle, label and taste your creation, before taking the rest of your gin home with you – or back to your Bowbrook Lodges holiday.

Greyfriars House and Garden

Greyfriars House and Garden is a former medieval merchant’s home in the centre of Worcester, rescued from demolition by the National Trust.

The timber-framed and tiled house was built in 1480 for Thomas Grene, a brewer from Worcester, on a site next to a Franciscan monastery. Although one of the two ranges running back from the street is Elizabethan, and additions and alterations were carried out in the 16 ^th and 18 ^th centuries, the house remains a good example of a wealthy merchant’s home of the late Middle Ages.

The exterior features original close-studded timbering with carved ornaments. The interior features a great parlour with original carved beams and early 17 ^th century panelling, showing a frieze of Welsh dragons.

The walled garden at Greyfriars pays homage to what stood before it - George's Yard, a row of 10 blindback houses, demolished in 1955 and recycled to create what is now a tranquil outdoor space, where visitors can enjoy the summer sunshine.

The garden provides a great opportunity to witness seasonal changes right in the heart of the city. Throughout the summer, there are bursts of colour as the roses reach up and climb the walls of the timber-framed house.

The house itself is open on Fridays and Saturdays, while the garden and The Old Oak Café are open more often, with free entry and no booking necessary.

Tewkesbury Battle Trail

Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire is one of the best examples of a medieval town centre you could come across.

In 1471, Tewkesbury was the site of a battle that put a new king on the throne and killed an heir apparent. It was one of the decisive battles in the Wars of the Roses and the result was a Yorkist victory, ensuring 12 years of stability until the death of Edward IV in 1483.

Remarkably, the battlefield has been left undeveloped and hosts the biggest Medieval reenactment in Europe every July.

The Tewkesbury Battlefield sits in the town’s back garden, where a waymarked trail takes visitors to the key sites, and you can pick up a Battle Trail leaflet from the tourist information centre.

Shopping in Cheltenham

We all love relaxing in the countryside, but sometimes we just can’t resist the lure of a town centre.

Cheltenham has a thriving town centre, with all of your favourite chain stores on the High Street and more high-end shopping on The Promenade, while Regent Arcade is home to over 50 different retailers.

There’s a good mix of independents too, as well as plenty of coffee shops and restaurants, where you can take the weight off your feet and enjoy something to eat and drink.

For restaurants and entertainment, head to The Brewery Quarter. To splash out or just to browse, head for the exclusive Montpellier area.

There are a number of parks and gardens close to the centre if you want to take time out. And few visitors can ignore the photo opportunity of the famous Hare and the Minotaur sculpture.

Shopping in Worcester

Worcester city centre is accessible, compact and visitor-friendly, so you can shop to your heart’s content seven days a week.

The indoor shopping centre, Crowngate, is a treasure trove of homeware, fashion and gifts, while the bustling charter market in Angel Place hosts local traders selling great value food, clothes and gifts from Wednesday to Saturday.

The pedestrianised trio of High Street, Pump Street and The Shambles are well-stocked with fantastic brands and quirky independents.

There are plenty of restaurants to discover if you head away from the High Street towards Friar Street and New Street .

There’s also Reindeer Court, a sophisticated shopping arcade converted from a 17th century coaching inn.

Towards the north of the city centre, you’ll find The Hopmarket, The Foregate and The Tything, with a great selection of restaurants, bars and vintage shops.

Tiddesley Wood Nature Reserve

Tiddesley Wood Nature Reserve is a large woodland in Pershore, Worcestershire. It was once an enclosed deer park owned by the Abbots of Pershore Abbey and local nobility, as well as the Forestry Commission.

The Forestry Commission managed much of the wood as a commercial forestry plantation in the 1950s. Worcestershire Wildlife Trust bought the wood because of its outstanding importance as an ancient woodland, with the ultimate aim of restoring it to its former condition.

The woods are carpeted with wildflowers in spring – bluebells, wood anemones, violets and cowslips.

Trees are coppiced - cut back almost to ground level. This encourages new growth and, when done in rotation, ensures a diverse range of habitats through different stages of growth. Coppiced areas are great for butterflies, insects and warblers.

The larger trees provide habitats for insects that need mature and dead wood. In these shadier areas, visitors should look for uncommon violet helleborines and, where some light penetrates, herb paris, greater butterfly orchid, twayblade and dog’s mercury.

The conifer plantations are gradually being converted to broad-leaved woodland and provide a contrast to oak, ash, aspen, hazel, blackthorn, small-leaved lime, wayfaring and wild service trees. Visitors should keep a look out for the more obvious wild plum, pear and crab apple trees too.

The orchard at the main entrance to the woodland is the remnant of a thriving fruit-growing and market gardening industry that developed in this part of Worcestershire in the 19th century. Tiddesley’s orchard is now managed more with wildlife in mind than commercial interests. The dying and decaying trees are an important habitat for the nationally rare noble chafer beetle, which has been recorded there for many years.

Cheltenham Races

Cheltenham Racecourse is the home of jump racing. Best known for the Cheltenham Festival, and especially the Gold Cup in March, the racecourse hosts a number of other race meetings throughout the year – averaging one meeting a month from October to May.

The Showcase in October features 14 races over two days, while the November Meeting is an unmissable three days of racing. All roads may lead to The Festival, but the magic really starts in November. From countryside entertainment to top-class family fun, there's plenty to enjoy either side of the superb racing out on the track.

Birdland

Birdland in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire is home to more than 120 species of bird from around the world.

It is set in nine acres of gardens and woodland, creating a picturesque canopy for the winding River Windrush. Spot flamingos, pelicans, cranes and waterfowl that live in the riverside habitats, with many more inhabiting over 50 aviaries.

Birdland’s star attractions are undoubtedly the king penguins - the only breeding group in England – along with the comical humboldts.

In the Out of Africa area, you will find hornbills, village weavers and many more amazing birds from across the continent.

In the Pandemonium of Parrots area, you will be amazed by vibrant and colourful parrots from macaws to lorikeets in their new enclosures.

Birdland’s newest addition is the Parliament of Owls. Among the birds on show in the new aviaries are snowy owls, burrowing owls, great grey owls, spectacled owls and Indian scops owls.

If you’ve got time, take a wander round Bourton itself, which is an archetypal Cotswold village.

Broadway Tower

Broadway Tower in Worcestershire is one of England's outstanding viewpoints and, at 312 metres above sea level, is the second highest point on the Cotswold escarpment, after Cleeve Hill.

On a clear day, the views are breathtaking and you can see as many as 16 counties - from the peaks of the Welsh mountains all the way to High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.

The tower, which stands 65 feet high, was the brainchild of Capability Brown and designed by James Wyatt in 1794 in and built for Lady Coventry in 1798-99.

It has had a varied history and over the years has served as a country retreat for artists, including William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones, who rented it together in the 1880s.

In the late 1950s, Broadway Tower was used to monitor nuclear fallout in England and an underground bunker was built 50 yards away.

Today, you can climb the four floors of the tower (including the roof viewing platform). Each floor shares a different aspect of the tower’s unique history. There is also a gift shop and restaurant on site.

You can reach Broadway Tower by following the Cotswold Way from the A44 at Fish Hill or by a steep climb from Broadway village.

Chastleton House

Chastleton House near Moreton-in-Marsh on the Gloucestershire/ Oxfordshire border is a rare Jacobean gem.

It was built between 1607 and 1612 by a wealthy wool merchant, as a statement of his power and prosperity.

Owned by the same family until 1991, when it was bought by the National Trust, the house remained more or less unchanged for nearly 400 years, as the interiors and contents were gradually hit by the ravages of time.

Chastleton House is now an informal and timeless relic, untouched by the 21 ^st century. It has become a fragile time capsule from another age, preserved by the poverty of the family which once owned it.

Chastleton is credited with the origins of croquet as a competitive sport. Its two croquet lawns were originally laid out by Walter Whitmore-Jones in the 1860s. His version of the rules of croquet were published in The Field in 1865 and became the definitive rules of this genteel sport.

Cotswold Lavender

Cotswold Lavender, in Snowshill near Broadway in Worcestershire, is open to the public for around a month during the summer.

Lavender was first planted at the farm in the year 2000 in fields previously used to grow wheat and barley. Now the farm is home to some 70 miles of rows and 250,000 lavender plants.

In a typical English summer, the lavender fields start to come into flower around the middle of June, with the best time to see them from early to mid-July, but it can differ from year to year, depending on the weather.

The lavender is a crop, and just like any crop it is harvested, unfortunately for visitors, that is just when it is looking its very best! Harvest usually starts during the last week of July and continues until early August.

The crops are steam distilled on the farm and made into a range of unique lavender products.

The gift shop and tea rooms are situated in a beautifully restored Cotswold stone barn on the farm. The gift shop sells the complete range of Cotswold Lavender products, the tea rooms sell unusual lavender delicacies, such as lavender shortbread or a cream tea with a lavender scone.

Snowshill Manor

Snowshill Manor, near Broadway in Worcestershire, is a Cotswold house packed with thousands of items collected by just one man.

Charles Paget Wade started collecting as a 7-year-old and eventually built up a collection of more than 22,000 weird and wonderful items from around the world. His collection included furniture, musical instruments, toys, paintings and an incredible 26 suits of Japanese Samurai armour.

Wade purchased the estate in 1919 and spent the years between 1920 and 1923 restoring the manor house and laying out the gardens.

He kept his huge collection in the manor, which provided a stage for his artefacts, while he lived in a small cottage on the estate. His aim was to create an interesting and decorative effect with his collection, rather than a boring museum. He chose his objects in with three essential criteria in mind: design, colour and craftsmanship.

The garden at Snowshill is an extension of the house. It is full of artistic features, with mystery at its heart.

Wade’s motto was “let nothing perish”. He gave the property and his entire collection to the National Trust in 1951.

Visitors to Snowshill Manor can see the eclectic collection laid out just as Charles Wade intended them to be seen.

Great local walks

Bowbrook Holidays is set in the beautiful countryside and we’re lucky enough to be surrounded by great local walks in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Warwickshire.

Whether you are looking for a long hike, a short ramble or a potter round a town centre, there is something for everyone.

Here are just a few of our favourites…

Bredon Hill

Located in the Vale of Evesham in Worcestershire, Bredon Hill is both beautiful and steeped in thousands of years of history. At the summit of the hill is an Iron Age hillfort, dating back to well before the 1st century AD.

The hill also boasts the earthworks of a once significant medieval castle, located next to The Dingle. When the castle was abandoned, the stone was used to build Pershore Bridge, leaving only earthen mounds to show that it ever existed.

At the summit of the hill is Parsons Folly (or the Banbury Tower), built in the 18 ^th century as a summer house for John Parsons, the squire of Kemerton Court.

The hill has a number of well-defined trails, with excellent views on a clear day. The Elmley Castle picnic spot is particularly lovely for a bite to eat outdoors and is located just off Kersoe Lane.

There is no single large car park for Bredon Hill. Trails start from different locations, which can be accessed from a number of the surrounding villages. There are six villages surrounding the hill, most of which have some car parking either in designated areas or on the streets.

We would suggest parking near The Star Inn in Ashton Underhill and then walking up through the church.

The Malvern Hills

There are some restrictions in place for the safety of walkers and to protect some of the sensitive wildlife and heritage areas on the hills.

There are a number of car parks available close to the hills and we would suggest parking near The Kettle Sings Tea Rooms in the heart of the Malvern Hills. The Kettle Sings has its own spectacular views and is a great place to stop for lunch or a piece of cake before, during or after your walk.

Cleeve Hill

Cleeve Hill, a few miles outside Cheltenham, is the highest point in the Cotswold Hills.

If you fancy a long walk, it is part of the Cotswold Way, which runs all the way from Chipping Campden to Bath. But it is also a nice place for a bracing walk in its own right – the wind is always strong on Cleeve Hill, whatever the weather at the bottom of the hill!

The biggest car park is an old quarry close to the golf club. From here, take a walk up to the Three Sisters – the large pylons which can be seen for miles around. When you get to the top of the hill, it is surprisingly flat and free of mud.

There are a few benches to sit and enjoy the view, or take a picnic blanket. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Severn Bridges and the Black Mountains in Wales.

The area is shared with a golf course, so it is important to always stay alert to golf balls, not to mention the sheep which graze on the common for much of the year.

Broadway Tower

Broadway in Worcestershire, close to the Gloucestershire border, is one of the prettiest of the Cotswold villages.

You can take a leisurely stroll through the high street, walk a stretch of the Cotswold Way, or if you’re feeling brave, tackle a steep walk to Broadway Tower.

From the centre of Broadway, it’s just over a mile to the tower, but it is uphill all the way and not for the faint-hearted – or wheelchair users or small children in prams.

The path can get very muddy, so walking boots are a must, but the view from the tower makes it all worthwhile. And you can stop for coffee, cake and to recharge your batteries at the Tower Barn coffee shop, before tackling the (far easier!) walk downhill.

Park at the Leamington Road car park, close to the High Street.

Hereford City walk

If you don’t fancy hills, take a stroll through the historic city of Hereford, on a three mile route using city streets, riverside path and tracks.

Park at Garrick House multi-storey car park on Widemarsh Street

Turn left out of the car park and walk up Widemarsh Street to the Coningsby Museum. Continue to the right along Monkmoor Street and then right again along Commercial Road to a busy junction opposite the Kerry.

Briefly detour left along Bath Street to see a remnant of the old city wall opposite the Magistrates' Court, then return to go down Union Street beside the Kerry pub. Walk back past St James's Church into High Town and left through an archway down a narrow passage, Capuchin Lane.

Go left past the cathedral into Castle Street, then walk right along a narrow passage which leads past Castle Pool (the last remnant of the city's defensive moat) to Castle Green. Turn left on a rising path that skirts two sides of the park to a viewpoint overlooking the Wye.

On the far bank, turn right beside Bishop's Meadow, continuing beyond to cross St Martin's Street at the foot of the 15th-century Wye Bridge. Cross here, descending to the riverbank to double back downstream past the rugby club.

Approaching Hereford Rowing Club, the path leaves the river to go round the clubhouse. Continue up Greyfriars Avenue, then immediately before the main road, go right along a footpath above the car park.

Continue along Victoria Street beside the old city walls and then turn right into West Street. At the crossroads, go left into Broad Street, heading towards All Saints Church at the top. Go right to High Town, taking the first left into Widemarsh Street. Follow it up across a junction with a main road back to the starting point at the car park.

Honeybourne Line, Cheltenham

Another urban walk is the Honeybourne Line in the centre of Cheltenham. A disused railway line, it is flat, wide and free of traffic – perfect for those with mobility problems or juggling small children.

The old Honeybourne Line runs from the Prince of Wales Stadium to the railway station and was formerly the railway line connecting Cheltenham and Honeybourne, Worcestershire.

It is an important wildlife corridor and small mammals and foxes are frequent visitors. Many species of butterfly, including a small blue colony, have been seen along the line and it has a selection of common native plants usually associated with disused railway lines.

There are multiple entrances/ exits along the route, which will take walkers to the road, or the Winston Churchill Memorial Gardens.

There are playgrounds along the route to keep children amused, and the path is also very popular with runners and cyclists. The bridges are decorated with street art/ graffiti, mainly by talented artists working as part of the Cheltenham Paint Festival.

Walking from one end to the other will take around 40 to 60 minutes, depending on pace.

Alternatively, take a turn towards Waitrose and under the tunnel after crossing the big, modern bridge, and you will find yourself in the heart of Cheltenham town centre.

Symonds Yat

Admire the picturesque views of the River Wye and surrounding area from this famous viewpoint in Herefordshire, close to the Gloucestershire and Welsh borders.

Discover the ancient hillfort, spot birds of prey and enjoy a snack from the log cabin cafe.

There are waymarked trails linking to the River Wye and a choice of circular walks into the forest itself – ranging from a mile to 11 miles.

The 2 km (1.2 mile) Symonds Yat trail circular walking trail follows tracks through the Iron Age fort and attractive woodland. Along the route, there are 10 nature trail boards with things to look out for as you walk.

The 11 mile circular Highmeadow Trail is rewarding, but with steep gradients and muddy in places.

Symonds Yat Rock viewpoint is well known as one of the best places in the country to watch peregrine falcons, and there are many other birds to spot too.

Look out for goshawks, sparrowhawks and buzzards - which can be seen from above whilst soaring. Ospreys often stop here in the spring and autumn migration. Tawny owls are sometimes seen roosting and hooting males are might be heard during the day.

Suggested parking is at Symonds Yat Rock car park.

Tewkesbury Riverside Walk

The historic Gloucestershire town of Tewkesbury is the meeting point of three rivers – the smaller Swilgate, the Severn, Britain’s longest river, and the picturesque Avon.

The Tewkesbury riverside walk is an easy walking route, which meanders along the beautiful River Avon in Tewkesbury town centre. It is a short route (approximately 45 minutes), is mainly flat and has disabled access for most of its length. Along the way, you will learn about the history of Tewkesbury and its rivers.

If you want to walk further, take the footbridge across to the Severn Ham, a large unspoilt area, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and full of wildlife. It will take around an hour to complete a full lap of the Ham.

Recommended parking is at Gloucester Road car park.

Vale of Evesham circular walks

There is no better way to enjoy the Vale of Evesham’s wonderful countryside than to follow one of the circular walks in the area. The walks are of varying distance and take in some of the Vale’s most spectacular views, interesting buildings and beautiful flora and fauna.

The Beckford Walk is a 10 mile circular route. Beckford is just off the A46, midway between Evesham and Tewkesbury, a mile north of the Teddington Hands crossroads. The village sits at the foot of Bredon Hill and cars can be parked on the main street close to the start.

The Pirton Walk is a five mile circular route. Pirton is a small village five miles west of Pershore. It can be approached from the A44 Worcester to Evesham road via Wadborough or from the A38 Worcester to Tewkesbury road via High Green. The ancient church of St Peter is the starting point of this walk. The route takes you north to Stonehall Common, then south-west across Kempsey Common and back through Pirton.

Alcester Circular Walk

If you fancy tackling a long walk, the Alcester circular walk is 18 miles.

Starting in the centre of the Warwickshire market town by the river, you first head south-east along the Arden Way to Oversley Wood, where there are wildflowers to enjoy in the spring and summer months.

The route then heads north-east through farmland towards Upton, Walcote and Aston Cantlow, where there are good views of the River Alne. You continue north from the village, passing Spernall Park before coming to Bannam's Wood.

The route turns south here across Morton Common to the village of Spernall, located on the River Arrow. From here there's a nice stretch along the river to Coughton, before you head east to New End and pick up Monarch's Way to take you back to Alcester.

There is parking in Alcester town centre car parks.

Stratford-upon-Avon riverside walk

The Warwickshire town of Stratford-upon-Avon is famously associated with William Shakespeare, but it is also a lovely town in its own right, with some great walks.

This short circular walk takes you along the River Avon to Stratford Racecourse. It's about 1.5 miles along the river to the racecourse, then you can cross the river at the bridge near the racecourse to head back along the opposite side.

The walk starts from the Grade I listed Clopton Bridge, which was built in 1486. Along the way, you'll pass a number of interesting landmarks, including the famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Stratford Butterfly Farm.

Also of interest is the Church of the Holy Trinity on the western side of the river. The Grade I listed building is known as Shakespeare's Church, as Shakespeare was both baptised and buried there. It's a fascinating building, built in 1210, and one of the highlights of the walk.

There is plenty of pay and display parking in the centre of Stratford close to the river.

Head to Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire for an evening of four fantastic firework displays.

A charming celebration of food, gardening and nostalgia, the Malvern Autumn Show at the Three Counties Showground promises to be a fun-filled family affair as the ultimate harvest festival returns on 24 ^th , 25 ^th and 26 ^th September.

Kurt Jackson: Clay Country exhibition, Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum until 20 ^th November

Kurt Jackson will be exhibiting at Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum all through the autumn until 20 ^th November.

At the start of his artistic career, Jackson travelled extensively, painting wherever he went before putting down roots in Cornwall in 1984.

His art ranges from plein-air sessions to studio work and embraces an extensive range of materials and techniques, including mixed media, large canvases, print-making and sculpture.

Jackson’s focus on the complexity, diversity and fragility of the natural world has led to artist-in-residencies on the Greenpeace ship Esperanza, the Eden Project and, for nearly 20 years, Glastonbury Festival, which has become a staple of his annual working calendar.

The Change in Ladies’ Costume, Sudeley Castle until 31 ^st October

Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire has an exhibition of the change in ladies’ fashion from 1066 until 1980, running until 31 ^st October.

The exhibition features an extensive collection of 74 dolls immaculately dressed in exquisite, hand-made costumes spanning a millennium.

The collection took five years to create. Visitors can see the change in ladies clothing over nearly 1,000 years, depicted in miniature form, with exceptional attention to detail. There is everything from a Saxon dress worn around the time of William the Conqueror to 1980s power dressing.

Each individual costume took creator Lisa Jayne Smith between two hours and two weeks to create. The collection even includes a majestic miniature model in an ornate early Tudor dress, which can also be seen on life-size models in the main exhibition.

Entry to the exhibition is included in the admission price.

Cheltenham Literature Festival 8 ^th – 17 ^th October 2021

For book lovers everywhere, The Times and Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival is the only place to be each autumn.

Meet your favourite authors, as the festival welcomes the world’s greatest writers and thinkers to the town, with a packed calendar of book events to suit all ages and tastes.

Frightmare at Over Farm, Gloucester, 9 ^th – 31 ^st October

Taking place on Thursdays to Saturdays only, Frightmare is Gloucestershire’s biggest Halloween event.

The multi-attraction event is held at Over Farm, just outside Gloucester, every October. Activities push the boundaries of human emotion, triggering fear, fun and everything in between.

Visitors will be scared, they will laugh and they will have the best time.

Spooky Halloween at Ralph Court Gardens, Bromyard, 17 ^th – 31 ^st October

Ralph Court Gardens in Bromyard, Herefordshire, plays host to the Spooky Halloween event.

With glowing pumpkins, smoke effects, spooky sounds and animated Halloween characters, the three-acre garden is transformed for a scary event suitable for all ages.

Visit the flower seller and take advantage of the free coffin measuring service. See the animatronic witches making special potions in the coven.

In the evening, visit the Ralph family in the haunted house and choose whether you want a mild scare or a proper fright in the haunted manor.

The Showcase at Cheltenham Racecourse, 22 ^nd – 23 ^rd October

Kicking off the new jump racing season at Cheltenham Racecourse, The Showcase promises two days of thrilling racing action.

As the first full capacity event at the racecourse in more than 18 months, fans will be chomping at the bit for The Showcase.

This first fixture of the 2021-2022 season will see leading jockeys, horses and trainers return to jump racing’s most famous arena to showcase their promising stars of the season.

Cotswold Farm Park Pumpkin Patch, 22 ^nd – 31 ^st October

Is it even Halloween if you don’t visit a pumpkin patch?

Cotswold Farm Park in Guiting Power, Gloucestershire, is opening up its pumpkin patch for autumnal activities.

Wrap up warm and head over to the field to explore the pumpkin trail and choose a spooky face paint design. Once you’ve enjoyed some October activities, grab yourself a pumpkin to take home for crafts and pies.

Entry to the field (plus a free pumpkin token) is included in the Farm Park admission - don’t forget to buy tickets online in advance. Pumpkin field only tickets are also available.

November 2021

Tewkesbury Festival of Lights, 2 ^nd – 5 ^th November

Enjoy an immersive walking journey through Tewkesbury Abbey in Gloucestershire, as light and sound art transform the majestic space, telling the unique story of the town and history of the Abbey.

The sound and light show was created by award-winning collaboration, Luxmuralis, featuring artist Peter Walker and composer David Harper.

The festival will take place on the evenings of 2 ^nd , 3 ^rd , 4 ^th and 5 ^th November.

The Festival of Lights is suitable for visitors of all ages. Tickets are on sale and advance booking is essential.

The November Meeting, 12 ^th – 14 ^th November, Cheltenham Racecourse

Hailed as one of the major highlights of the British jump racing calendar, The November Meeting will be returning to Cheltenham Racecourse from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th November 2021.

Celebrating all things rural, Countryside Day takes place on 12 ^th November, featuring six excellent races, including The Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Handicap Chase. The opening day will also feature a fantastic array of countryside pursuits.

Paddy Power Day on 13 ^th November promises fantastic racing – with seven action-packed races, including the anticipated Paddy Power Gold Cup. Racegoers can also head to the Shopping Village featuring over 70 stands selling everything from couture bags to artwork. And local favourites, The Chip Shop Boys, will be playing after the racing in The Centaur.

As the only Sunday race day during the season, Sunday 14 ^th November is a fantastic family day. Under 18s will get in free of charge and there is a host of free family activities, including face painting and appearances from Peppa Pig throughout the day.

Winter Glow, Three Counties Showground 12 ^th November 2021 – 9 ^th January 2022

Winter Glow brings four festive experiences to one central location at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern.

Immerse yourself in the season, with daytime entertainment and extra special experiences through to night-time fun.

Winter Glow starts with the opening of the ice rink, followed by the Illuminated Light Trail and Malvern’s first giant observation wheel, with personalised Santa experiences running throughout December.

Sudeley Castle Spectacle of Light 26 ^th November – 30 ^th December 2021

Sudeley Castle’s magical after-dark experience, now in its sixth year, takes a new illuminated trail around the beautiful castle grounds.

Enchanted Light Trail, Cotswold Farm Park, Gloucestershire, 26 ^th November – 31 ^st December

Cotswold Farm Park in Guiting Power, Gloucestershire, hosts the Enchanted Light Trail from the end of November right through the festive season.

Let the lights guide you on an enchanted stroll through the farm park after hours.

The Enchanted Light Trail is a spectacular night time journey of magical lights and sounds around the farm park. There is a set trail to follow, which takes you from the visitor centre area right the way to the park’s boundaries and back.

There will be crackling fire pits and a festive shop perfect for present buying. Hot food and drink will be available at various points along the route.

Ride with Santa/ Santa Express GWSR Railway, Gloucestershire, 27 ^th November – 24 ^th December

The GWSR heritage railway in Gloucestershire offers two opportunities for meeting Santa this Christmas.

Ride with Santa travels from Toddington to Broadway and back. Father Christmas and his elves will be on board the train, chatting to families and handing out presents to children.

The Santa Express travels from Toddington to Winchcombe and back. Families get off the train at Winchcombe, ready to meet the big man in his North Pole grotto.

Severn Valley Railway Santa Trains, Kidderminster, 27 ^th November – 24 ^th December

Your vintage steam train awaits at the beautifully decorated Kidderminster station in Worcestershire, ready to take you on an adventure into Christmas!

Everyone will receive a drink and festive treat as they settle into their own private compartments, before steaming through delightfully decorated stations to Arley.

Jump off the train to be entertained by the all new professional Christmas show, as Jingle and Jangle enjoy some festive fun. You'll hopefully catch a glimpse of Santa himself, as he prepares for the biggest night of the year.

Back on the train, present-shaped surprises will be waiting for all children before the train steams back to Kidderminster.

King Arthur: The Panto, Roses Theatre 27 ^th November – 31 ^st December 2021

It’s a brand new panto for Tewkesbury. Oh yes, it is!

King Arthur: The Panto has been specially created for The Roses by Maurice Gran (BAFTA-winning writer of Birds of a Feather) and Nick Wilkes (Malvern Bard).

It tells the tale of a humble baker’s boy from Medieval Tewkesbury destined to become King of Wessex. But first he has to overcome the dragon and the evil Sir Mordred.

Expect scones, stones, swords, laughter, danger, princesses, heroes, villains, dragons, wizards, magic, music, brave knights, foolish jesters and lots and lots of fun!

Peter Pan, Malvern Theatres 9 ^th December 2021 – 2 ^nd January 2022

Awash with swash and buckle, Malvern’s favourite funnyman, Mark James, is back at Malvern Theatres with Peter Pan.

The joy of traditional camping is largely based on a the ‘back-to-basics’ experience. It’s those memories of putting up tents and sleeping on the floor which take you away from all the modern conveniences we have today. This is completely weather dependent and something you’ll have to prepare for; if it’s raining you still have to pitch the tent and try and keep everything dry doing so. But I think that’s the whole point of camping – to say goodbye to your comforts and embrace the hardship. But again, this is basic not fashionable. For most of us, that isn’t our idea of a holiday or a break away from the city life. Its challenging when we all have busy lives with work and family, and we just want to spend time with the people we love on an enjoyable and relaxing break away. Especially if you are from the city, and don’t have camping experience or gear – let alone anywhere to store it once your trip is over. Therefore, glamping offers you the same nature loving experience but with hotel-style living. Take a walk down to Bowbrook and walk through the meadow, relax, and unwind. Walk around the farm and appreciate the views to The Cotswolds and Malvern Hills.

The space

Sheep are often roaming in the surrounding fields. Have a stroll in the grounds, sit on the decking with your feet up or go and explore the local area. This is a home from home. The master bedroom has a walk in wardrobe, en-suite and television.

The idea of camping in the winter doesn’t exactly sound that thrilling, frankly, you’ll probably spend most your time being cold, wet and pretty miserable. Overwhelmed by the constant regret of leaving the comfort of your warm home in the attempt to be more adventurous. But glamping flips the whole experience of the countryside in winter on its head to provide you with the ultimate rural cosy living – whether that’s for some chill out time or to bring out your wild side. This is truly the only way to camp in the winter since it offers a combination of fantastic rural experiences along with all those modern amenities, like heating, hot showers and electrical power. In this guide, we provide you with all the reasons and tips for luxury camping in winter.

Sleeping arrangements

Luxury camping means you shouldn’t have to ‘rough it’ but lots of different locations offer a variety of sleeping arrangements. For instance, some might have a mattress on the floor or bunk beds or a proper luxurious king size bed. Whether these are in separate rooms, or all together is another thing. At Bowbrook we offer lodges with separate rooms that have either a king or double bedroom and each have a twin room. Whilst in the safari tents, we offer 2 king size beds and a set of bunk beds. However, it is more of an open planning living situation, where the king bed and the bunks share a space but divided by a curtain and the other king bed is hidden away in the wall! Each lodge or safari tent has at least 1 shower room – the lodges have an ensuite shower room and a bathroom.

What’s amenities are included?

We have many customers that like to experience the summer and winter seasons at Bowbrook. With fluffy blankets, fur rugs, fire pits and central heating on offer in all safari tents there is no reason not to enjoy them year round. There is nothing better than all the gang wrapped in blankets, huddling around the glow and warmth of the fire pit on a crisp winter evening. You could even roast some marshmallows, enjoy a hot drink and play with sparklers all under the stars.

In addition, the lodges even have fire places which is perfect to have going in the evening whilst the family plays some board games! Or grab a drink and head out to the decking and watch the sun set behind the magnificent Malvern Hills.

It’s good to check that your accommodation includes things like towels, WIFI and kitchen equipment as they aren’t always included. You might have a shock if you turn up to a lodge in the middle of no-where and have to go searching for a shop that sells towels – it will be even more difficult if you don’t have phone signal! For your convenience and comfort, at Bowbrook we offer everything we think you’ll need on your stay, so you don’t come unprepared. If you do forget anything, there is a co-op within a 5-minute drive or Pershore town which is a further 5 minutes from the co-op.

Local events and things to do

Though out the autumn and winter months there are many local events that happen in Worcestershire. Obviously, in autumn you have your seasonal traditions like bonfire night and Halloween. The closest event for bonfire night is at The Angel where they’ll be hosting a bonfire, fireworks and live music on the 1st November which starts at 5pm. If you fancy something a bit bigger, head to Worcester race course on the 2nd November where they also set up a fairground. It is led by volunteers and all profits go to chosen charities. Leading into winter, you can experience Christmas theatre production at the Number 8 in Pershore or you can head further afield to the Malvern Theatres which host big name actors and actresses in many of their productions.

If you like to experience religious services, Pershore Abbey holds many services in the centre of the town. Particularly, there Christmas services are excellent and are very accepting and welcoming to all.

Become the ultimate packing Pro! Use these tips to help you save time and save space in your bags.

1. Think ahead

You really need to think about what you will be doing on your trip and what clothes you need. You don’t want to waste room packing items that you won’t use on your trip as they will take up way to much room. The best advice is to lay out all the items you plan on taking before you pack them. This gives you the opportunity to take a hard look at it all and think ‘do I need to take that?’ or ‘do I need that many tops?’. This could help you avoid packing 3 similar tops when you only need one - if it needs a wash you can most likely do it in a sink! Either way, you’ll feel more prepared for your trip ahead.

2. Wear the big stuff

This is a good thing to consider if you are planning on talking bulky necessary items like walking boots or winter coats which would take up a lot of room in your bag. Make it a rule to wear these items whilst you travel. This means you’ll save room in your bags for more clothes and it’ll keep you warm on your journey.

3. No need for irons

When you get to your destination, its inevitably that some clothes always end-up with wrinkles. And not all places offer an iron and board – especially if you opt for the adventurous safari tent. The best way to sort this quickly and stress-free, is to hang it in the bathroom while you take a shower. This allows the steam to smooth out the crinkles, so you have fresh, crisp clothes.

4. The rolling tactic and more!

You’ve probably heard it but not believed it, but the rolling tactic actually works. The idea is that with a top you fold the arms into the centre and then roll it up. With trousers, you fold them in half and then roll up. This tactic stops creasing and saves space in your bags instead of traditionally folding items. The best thing to do after that is to place the clothes in a vacuum compression bag – you can buy bags that don’t need a vacuum as well. This creates so much space in your bags and stops jumpers and sweaters taking up all the space.

5. Accessorise

Just remember, to pack light you need to choose versatile and interchangeable pieces that can be worn with each other. This means picking staple items in basic colours, like black or white. This could be packing a pair of black jeans, skirt or tops. This allows you to add colourful belts, hats, scarves and jewellery to jazz up the look. They add instant colour and help make your outfit pop! It’s ideal to pack accessories like these because they don’t take up that much space and you will most likely wear them whilst you travel.

6. Reduce your shoes

Shoes most definitely take up the most room in your bags and ideally you want to only pack one pair and wear another. That could be a pair of trainers/flats and heels which both can make an outfit either instantly smarter or casual. If you’re bringing walking shoes, It’s a good idea to wrap them in a bag even if they are clean because it is likely when you head back home they won’t be.

7. Scale down your wash bag

Ladies, we have so much make-up! But we don’t need to take 6 different types of lipstick with us on a 5-day trip. Just pack the essentials and try only to pack 1 of each thing, e.g. 1 concealer, 1 eye shadow, 1 lipstick etc. Then place it into a small bag or maybe a plastic sandwich bag if you’re thinking of taking them on your carry on for a flight as it’ll save you time and hassle in security. Thai on 7even

It’s about time to try the real tastes of Thailand – which can be found in one of the best Thai restaurants in the area. They will not disappoint and from the moment you enter till you leave, for an evening it feels like you’re in Thailand! Relax in their beautifully decorated restaurant to be serve proper authentic Thai food. Their customer service is exceptional and if you have any issues with a dish they’ll go over and above till you are happy. This isn’t something you usually experience in chain restaurants. Don’t just take my word for it, there are tons of reviews online that say the same! They offer a wide range of dishes which both offer you quality and quantity. I recommend booking as they are loved by locals.

The Old Rectifying House

Named after its past, the Old Rec used to be a part of the Williams distillery. It showcases historic architecture coupled with chic romantic décor. It has a posh pub feel, where the food is a mixture of classics dishes, originality and creativity. They are beautifully presented and full of flavour. This is a great place to experience new tastes or stay safe with your British classics. They have incorporated many vegetarian and vegan choices in their menu which could turn any meat-eater into a vegan. Also, if you buy 5 cocktails you get the 6th free!

Be The Change

A must go to for unique, tasty, homey and 100% vegan food. They are based in Worcester city centre and offer affordable and exciting vegan cuisine. If you aren’t vegan and don’t know what vegans eat, then this is the perfect opportunity to jump out of you comfort zone and experience food that could lead to a healthier world if we all ate it. Their cosy lounge is a great place to start your day with some breakfast or to start your night with some dinner.

Hanbao

Hanbao offers you a unique dining experience to taste a blend of Asian and western cuisine. This ultimately creates the élite fast food experience. But beware, it gets messy chowing down on their mighty burgers and extravagant sides! They cater for most, if not all, dietary needs like gluten free and vegan. The ambience is relaxed, cool vibes where all is welcome – no matter what you like to wear or look like. In addition, to the food they make some of the BEST cocktails in town and are honestly a must-try. They have recently opened their rooftop bar and desert parlour which has living walls! All Perfect for that insta story!

Jimmy pickles

Eat in or take out, this award-winning Indian fusion restaurant serves the best. The menu has a lot of choice but unlike a lot of places there isn’t pages – which is a good thing! It also includes descriptions of the dish which is ideal if you fancy trying a new dish. Their naan bread is INCREDIBLE, and I would recommend trying the peshwari naan because it is so extravagant and luxurious. A personal favourite of my families is the tandoori king prawns as a starter or main.

Ounce bar and kitchen

This is the place to get a steak in Worcestershire, you can order your cut by the ounce – clues in the name! They are passionate about their food, butcher the meat on site and give you hearty servings of all the trimmings. They offer lunch deals Tuesday-Saturday and serve their famous Sunday lunch. This might seem like completely the wrong place for vegetarians to be found but they also offer options for them too. So, no one is left out or left hungry for that matter. All the food is sourced locally and freshly prepared on site.

Wayland’s Yard

They are a speciality coffee shop that serves fresh, locally sourced food. It is a great place to have some brunch, lunch, cakes or a pint. It’s ideal to hang out at, do some work or have a wholesome meal. It’s not quite a restaurant so you have to order food and drink at the till, but it arrives nice and quickly. Although in the city centre, it has a stunning garden furnished with swing chairs and tables! Perfect for all the family and they also have a second location in Birmingham.

Mac & Jacks

The family run business currently has 2 cafes, in Great Malvern and Worcester, which serve locally sourced food.

The one set in Great Malvern, is the perfect place to have some breakfast before you head up the Malvern Hills or they offer a fantastic pre-theatre menu (by booking only). Their breakfast menu is available till 12pm and all-day Sunday. They serve poached eggs on toast with a variety of options like spiced avocado and tomatoes or smoked salmon and hollandaise. For something sweet, they do waffles with Greek yoghurt and fruit. For the best of both worlds, get the French toast, crispy smoked bacon and maple syrup. It’s a truly lovely spot to sit outside to enjoy the sun and the surrounding hills and architecture.

The second spot is on friar street in Worcester. Like the one in Malvern, they serve breakfast and lunch, but they also serve monthly supper evenings. In their shop and deli, you can purchase a range of artisan produce that is baked in house daily like cakes, savoury tarts and pastries. Similarly, you can find products from other local suppliers on the shelves.

The Handmade Scotch Egg Company

You really haven’t experienced the potential of the classic Scotch Egg till you’ve tried some of the 40 varieties on offer at The Handmade Scotch Egg company. They offer flavour like The MightyQuin Scotch egg, which Is a mixture of smoky, sweet and spicy flavours. The classic scotch egg usually contains sausage meat, but this company has created their very own vegetarian option using chickpeas!

Stinging nettle, red onion and mushroom pizza

Take a walk around your lodge and you might just find a feast!

If you spot Nettles along the footpaths, instead of cursing the things and hurrying to find a doc leaf, did you know that you can use them to make your very own homemade pizza?!

Stinging nettles are herbaceous perennial flowering plants, native to Europe, and grow extensively across the English countryside. These weeds are easy to identify along public footpaths and the edges of fences due to their distinctive shape. Furthermore, they are highly nutritional; containing high levels of magnesium, iron, calcium, protein, vitamin A and C. This makes them – surprisingly - healthier than broccoli! Stinging nettles also have many medicinal benefits including the ability to reduce inflammation, hay fever symptoms, blood pressure and blood glucose levels - which is particularly beneficial for diabetics.

The best thing about them is that you can get them for FREE by foraging them - who doesn't love free food?!

Adding stinging nettles to a dish will make it taste vaguely peppery and have a similar flavour to spinach. The best time to pick them is in spring when they are the most tender and its best to pick the youngest leaves from the tip of the plant. Once picked, place the leaves on a flat surface, like a tray, to wilt. To make sure you don’t get stung use rubber gloves to collect them.

Try our very own Bowbrook pizza using the recipe below or, if you fancy experimenting more with nettles, you could try making nettle and cauliflower soup, incorporating it into ravioli or make your own pesto with it!

The Bowbrook nettle, onion and mushroom pizza recipe

Servings: 4 individual servings

Pizza base ingredients:

• 250 g sieved plain flour

• 150 ml warm water

• 50 ml extra virgin olive oil (and an extra 4 tbsp for frying)

• 1 tsp dried yeast

• 1 tsp salt

• 1 tsp garlic paste

Toppings

• 100 g fresh nettle leaves (washed and dried) – make sure to use gloves when handling

• 1 thinly sliced, red onion

• 300 g mushrooms

• 4 tbsp passata

• 2 grated buffalo mozzarellas

• 100 g finely grated parmesan

Method

1. To make the dough, add the dried yeast to a ball of lukewarm water, stir and leave for 5 minutes.

2. Sieve the plain flour and salt into a separate bowl. Then mix in the olive oil and yeast mixture to the flour mixture. Mix it into a dough ball and kneed it for 10 minutes on a floured surface. Lightly rub the ball with olive oil and place it in a bowl, cover the bowl with a tea cloth or cling film, to allow it to prove for an hour.

3. At this point, pre-heat the oven to 200C fan or gas mark 7.

4. Remove the dough from the bowl and divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a thin pizza shaped circle.

5. Add a drizzle of oil to a baking tray and place the first pizza bases on it.

6. Lightly spread a tbsp of passata over the first pizza base, then scatter some mozzarella and a little bit of parmesan. Then add the red onion, mushrooms and nettle leaves. Then sprinkle some more parmesan over the top.

7. Place in the over for 10 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the toppings are cooked.

8. Serve straight away when it comes out the oven along with some fresh rocket and cherry tomato salad!

Like Camping...But Better!

Glamping offers you a rare chance to experience the countryside whilst still enjoying the home comforts, like proper beds and electricity, that you wouldn’t get with camping. Whether you are going alone, with friends or family, it’s a lasting experience that forms life long memories and bonds. Envision, strolling across the rolling hills, popping into a local pub for some lunch and coming back to your luxury lodge to chill on the decking, with a glass in hand, as the sun sets. Glamping enables you to get rid of the fuss, discomfort and dirtiness of camping but yet still enjoy the same experience available in the local area.

What Do I Pack?

It is always important when going anywhere from home that you pack everything you could possibly need. If you were camping, this would become a rather long list but fortunately with glamping most of the heavy work is all done for you. For instance, you won’t need to worry about putting up the tent and tools you’ll need to take, worrying about finding the toilets at night or bringing cooking equipment. The most important things to bring on your countryside adventures are:

• Waterproofs and jackets

• Any specific clothes or equipment for activities eg. Tennis rackets, bikes

• Normal clothes for mooching around town

• Plenty of socks

• Cosy pyjamas

• Food and drink (think marshmallows for the campfire and breakfast foods)

It’s the little things that matter. Like how the lodges are all kitted out with washing machines, so you don’t need to worry about get clothes dirty. Or, how we provide luxurious bottles of shampoo, shower gels and body lotion. And how they are all stocked with a variety of games to play, like cards and Jenga. These little gems will help you frees up space in your bag for other things, like candles if you’d like, and not wasting time sorting them out.

Relax & Refresh

It you want to get a bit of peace and quiet by escaping to the countryside, then that’s completely valid! You don’t have to spend time exploring, you can simply enjoy the sweeping green views from your decking with a drink in hand or whilst lounging on the sofa completing a crossword. Just soak up the fresh country air and the sounds of the local wildlife. Enjoy chilling out in a steaming hot tub under the stars or simply just having a family BBQ and the kids trying the pet the sheep in the nearby field. Some of these may seem like mundane things but doing them in such a stunning environment makes them all that more special and memorable. Choose Your Glamping Experience at Bowbrook

At Bowbrook, we have 2 main types of luxury glamping: Lodge or Safari tent.

The Lodges are like a home from home as they have more of a home feel. They are more spacious than the Safari tents and have more luxurious fittings. For instance, they have proper sofas and both a dish washer and washing machine. As well as, a bedroom with its own private ensuite and a separate bathroom. This means you have the choice of using a bath or shower to help you relax and refresh. They are also fitted with fluffy carpets to provide you with a cosier experience. The lodges are ideal for people who want to relax and enjoy the fresh countryside.

On the other hand, the safari tents are a bit more playful and ideal for families or groups of friends wanting to have a good time. They have a themed décor, with secret hideaways and fully equipped open plan kitchens-living rooms. Some have their own private hot tubes, and all have firepits so you can roast marshmallows or do a BBQ.

Discover...

Wherever you travel there will be history to discover and learn about. Find local castles or courts and gardens, take a picnic and make it a day. There is many places to discover in the local area! This includes the Commandery in Worcester city where you can learn about how it was the royalist headquarters in the English Civil War in the 1600s. similarly, explore the magnificent Croome court and gardens or Broadway tower. You can even investigate the lives of Edward Elgar or William Shakespeare who lived in the surround areas. See where they lived and grew up – the places that inspired them to greatness.

Dine

Taste your way through the different local delicacies like the Pershore plums, Herefordshire Beef and Worcester apples. These are best tried at the local restaurants and pubs where most use the local produce in their menus. The closest pubs will be in Pershore, like The Angel or The Pickled Plum. # 10 Museum of Royal Worcester

This ceramic museum inside the famous former Royal Worcester porcelain factory and houses its largest collection of their pieces. This is the perfect alternative to going around art galleries and looks at the progress of design as well as history and heritage of Worcester and England. They are an independent facility business which runs pottery workshops for a range of abilities for individuals, families and groups. They teach you how to mould clay into different objects using wheel and then you’ll be able to paint them. However, you’ll have to wait 5-6 weeks for your creations to be dried, fired and glazed. But they can post finished pots to your home address. They offer workshops from 1 hour to 3 hours long as well as hen parties and children’s parties.

# 7 West Midlands Safari Park

This safari park has a 4-mile safari drive-thru which allows you to come face to face with some amazing animals from around the globe. You can walk back in time into the ice age and into the land of the living dinosaurs. Then through the discovery trail where you’ll see the Reptile House, Twilight Cave, Creepy Crawlies, Aquarium, Lorikeet Landing, Sea Lion Theatre and Penguin Cove. Then, in the African village you’ll see the meerkats and lemurs. You can also experience daility hands-on animal encounters at no extra cost. To add to the fun they have a theme park, but you have to buy a wristband to enter which is £14.50 for adults and £12.50 for children (up to 15). Then individual costs per ride. Take an exciting trip from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth and back on a steam train! This gives you the chance to explore historic stations, experience interactive exhibitions and regular special events. It runs most weekends and daily from May 3rd to October 1st.

# 5 All Things Wild

This is an all-weather, year-round family fun and educational attraction which is suitable for all ages. They have both indoor and outdoor attractions. Inside they have a Monster of the Deep section that explores the prehistoric aquatic creatures. Other sections include, Ocean Voyage, Farmyard Safari, Soft play, Dino barn, Wilbur’s Discovery Zone, Madagascar and more! They even have a Dino land train and go karts. Outside they lots of fun things to do like play Wild Golf to then follow the Outback Trail and the Wild Meadow. If the kids love dinosaurs they have the Step through time Dinosaur Walk which is definitely worth the visit! I would recommend taking the kids here for the day because there is so much to do and see, they can’t possibly get bored!

# 4 Six Ways Stadium

# 3 Morgan Motor Factory Tours

Morgan Motor company is a British car manufacturer that was started in 1910. It is based in Malvern and only employs 177 people which produce luxury handmade cars which use wood for their construction – which makes them very unusual! They have an extensive waiting list for those wishing to buy one and when you do, you’re able to customise the car to your preferences by choosing the fitting you’d like it to include.

The tour will introduce you to their brand and explain their history before showing you around the factory floor. They will show you how the cars are made standing only a few meters away. You’ll also have the chance to enter the visitor centre that has a shop, café and museum. You then have the opportunity to take advantage of the hire cars, experience drive and purchase afternoon tea packages. The price for an adult £24 and for a child (5-11) its £12. Make sure you book online as they only have 18 places per tour, and they book up fast!

# 2 Croome Court (National Trust)

This a great place to visit as it is beaming with beauty and history! The remarkable gardens were designed by Capability Brown. They are amazing to walk around with a large range of different flowers and plants to look at and are backdropped by the Malvern hills in the distance. The parkland is great for walks and there are many different trails to follow with surprises around every corner. They offer free trail maps which lead you from one feature to another. There is never really a bad review of Croome Court|! There are deckchairs placed around the ornamental lake so you can chill and watch the water flow by and do a little bit of bird watching. They offer individuals with limited mobility the choice of using powered scooters and shuttle buggies.

At the centre of the parklands is the magnificent house which was home to the Earl of Coventry. It showcases grand rooms and features, although most the furniture was sold in the past there are a couple of imaginative exhibits.

If you visit, you’ll learn about Croome courts association to the RAF and the Second World War – how it was a SECRET wartime airbase!

There is a visitor centre with a restaurant and tea-room.

# 1 Malvern Hills

The Malvern hills are one of the most iconic natural landmarks of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire as they stretch over and across all three counties. They are a great place to walk, bike or horse ride across. Most of the routes are suitable for all abilities and ages. For a lot of people in this area, including myself, walking the Malvern hills has been a very memorable experience from my childhood and into my adult life. Especially, as the view isn’t one you forget easily! It’s the perfect place to takes the dogs and most pubs in the area are dog friendly.

My personal favourite walk is when you start at the Wyche cutting, if you drive, there is lots of parking to the right of the road as you enter. There is 2 main ways up the hills from there. You can take a gradual stroll up the left-hand side of the hill or there is a path up by the public toilets (this is a white and black wooden building) which is a little steep to begin with but levels out. Once on the hill you can head left to go up the Worcestershire beacon. Alternatively, you can turn right and walk for an hour or so to reach a stunning restaurant/pub called the Malvern Hills Hotel – the perfect pit-stop for lunch! Along the hills there are lots of sign posts to help you find your way, and I would recommend sticling to them as I have gotten lost once going down a beaten track! Alternatively, if you are planning to travel by train, I’d recommend getting it to Great Malvern station, then taking a walk up to North Hill. Evesham Blossom Trail

The Blossoms Trail has put Evesham on the map of beautiful destinations to visit in springtime. From March until May the area boasts some of the most productive horticultural land in the country.

During mid-March the soft pink tones of cherry and apple blossom erupts in both colour and perfume which surrounds the whole area. These tones contrast beautifully with the white blossom of the pear and plum trees which explode into life along the roadsides of the Vale.
